SMM January 17 News:

Today, spot copper in North China was quoted at a discount of 260-160 yuan/mt against the front-month contract, with an average discount of 210 yuan/mt, unchanged from the previous trading day. Transaction prices ranged from 75,890-76,150 yuan/mt, with an average price of 76,020 yuan/mt, up 325 yuan/mt from the previous trading day. The rise in copper price center weakened consumption and downstream stocking sentiment, leading to sluggish market activity. As the Chinese New Year holiday approaches and more downstream enterprises gradually suspend operations, spot premiums/discounts are expected to remain under pressure.
